DAVE HURST

Jasper Common Council

District 4

Dave Hurst has announced his intention to seek the 2023 Democratic nomination

for re-election to the District 4 Jasper Common Council, a seat he has held since2016. Prior tositting on the council he served on the Bainbridge TownshipAdvisory Board and the Jasper City Utility Board.

In announcing his decision to run for re-election, Hurst stated he’s a lifelong resident of Jasper and believes it’s the best city in which to live, work and raise afamily. “I want to continue helping Jasper make improvements on infrastructure, buildings and programs. I enjoy working with constituents on issues both within and outside my District. I am retired so have the time and flexibility to be available when needed.” Hurst also states there is only so much money available which means the council has a duty to the taxpayers and has to work together to decide where it should be spent. The local low unemployment rate poses a

challenge to local businesses to fill open positions and keep them filled. We need to make Jasper an attractive and financially secure place to keep our young citizens here and draw others. We completed the Thyen-Clark Cultural Centerand Riverfront work but there is more to do. The work around the Court House square is underway.

Hurst is a graduate of Jasper High School and Vincennes University-Jasper with a degree in Business Management. He is retired after working 44 years in the local woodworking industry in various capabilities related to selling, servicing, and managing accounts. He is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church as well as the Loyal Order of the Moose, American Legion, VFW Auxiliary and Jasper Knights of Columbus where he served on the Columbian Home Association Board of Directors for a number of years. He currently serves on the Jasper Gas Utility Sub-Committee. Hurst wants to continue serving the citizens of Jasper as he has for the past 8 years. He lives in Jasper with his wife, Suzanne. They have 2 grown children and 5

grandchildren.
